Summer may not officially be over just yet, but fall is already starting to make its way into Chester County and the Main Line. September brings the best of both seasons—warm afternoons, cooler evenings, outdoor events, local markets, live music and plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy our area.
If you're looking for something to do over the next few weeks, here are a few local favorites and upcoming events to add to your calendar.
Spend a Weekend in Downtown West Chester
September is one of the best times of year to spend a day in Downtown West Chester. Take advantage of the remaining warm weather with outdoor dining, browse the local shops and enjoy the Gay Street Open-Air Market on select weekends.
With dozens of restaurants, boutiques and locally owned businesses within walking distance, it's an easy way to spend a Saturday or Sunday without having to plan much at all.
Experience the Devon Fall Classic
September 10–13 | Devon
The Devon Fall Classic brings several days of equestrian competition to the historic Devon Horse Show grounds. In addition to the horse show, visitors can enjoy shopping, food and entertainment throughout the weekend.
It's a great early-fall tradition on the Main Line—and an opportunity to enjoy the iconic Devon grounds before the season really changes.
Enjoy Live Music at a Local Winery
We're lucky to have beautiful wineries throughout Chester and Delaware Counties, and September weather is perfect for enjoying them outdoors.
Penns Woods Winery in Chadds Ford hosts Live Music on the Lawn on select dates throughout the month, offering an easy afternoon or early-evening outing with local wine, music and views of the vineyard.
Taste Your Way Through the West Chester Restaurant & Food Truck Festival
September 20 | Downtown West Chester
One of West Chester's favorite annual events returns this September! The West Chester Restaurant & Food Truck Festival takes over the heart of downtown with more than 65 restaurants, caterers and food vendors, along with local artisans, live music and a beer and wine garden.
It's the perfect excuse to spend a Sunday downtown, discover a new favorite restaurant and enjoy one of the last weekends of summer outdoors.
Shop a Local Farmers Market
Local farmers markets are still filled with late-summer produce while the first flavors of fall begin making their way in.
The Malvern Farmers Market takes place on Saturdays, while the Berwyn Farmers Market is open Sunday mornings. Both offer a mix of local produce, baked goods, specialty foods and products from area vendors.
Grab a coffee, browse the stands and make a morning out of it.
Fall for Learning in Radnor
September 19 | Radnor
Main Line School Night is kicking off its fall semester with Fall for Learning, a community event at the Creutzburg Center in Radnor.
The afternoon will feature local artisans, food, live music, games and hands-on demonstrations. It's a fun way to spend a September afternoon while discovering some of the classes and programs offered right here on the Main Line.
Take Advantage of Patio Season
Before cooler temperatures settle in, September is the perfect excuse to revisit your favorite local restaurant patio—or try somewhere new.
From West Chester and Kennett Square to Media, Wayne and Ardmore, our area has no shortage of walkable downtowns filled with locally owned restaurants, coffee shops and businesses. Pick a town you haven't explored recently and make an afternoon or evening out of it.
Enjoy the Start of a New Season
One of our favorite things about living in Chester County and along the Main Line is how much there is to experience close to home. September gives us a little bit of everything: the last warm days of summer, the first hints of fall and a calendar full of ways to enjoy our local communities.
And we're only getting started. As we move further into the season, we'll be sharing more of our favorite fall traditions, events and places to visit throughout the area.
Whether you already call the area home or are considering a move, we’re always here to be a local resource for all things real estate.
